In January, 2026, the 9th annual ‘Taiwan Today’ Symposium was organised by Kyushu University’s Taiwan Studies Program. This year’s event focused on issues in Taiwan’s relations with Japan in general, and Kyushu in particular. Speakers discussed topics including the politics of Japan-US-Taiwan relations, Japanese conceptions of Taiwan, and the historical roots of Taiwan’s success as a centre for the manufacturing of high-grade computer chips.
